How could Indian head massage make me feel?

A good, long Indian head massage (involving neck and shoulder and back massage) will relax you. It's much more than this. It can leave you feeling detached, serene, sighing and wordless. Even if you don't experience this level of relaxation, this massage treatment offers all kinds of other benefits. It will relieve aches, pains and tension in your neck, back and shoulders.

An Indian head massage stimulates the flow of blood, lymph and oxygen in your upper body which will clear your sinuses, relieve stress and help you sleep better. And because it can help cure headaches (even migraine!), eye strain and anxiety, an Indian head massage can even help you to concentrate better at work.

What's more, the use of fragrant oils can stimulate as well as relax you, clearing your head, and soothing you even further. This form of indian head massage focuses on the three higher "chakras" - mind, body and spirit and as such hits your energy epicentre. All in all, an Indian head massage will leave you feeling happier and more relaxed all round.

What to wear?

Wear loose-fitting comfortable clothing - ideally without a high neck or tight collar. Before the treatment I will ask you to remove any necklaces, earrings, hair bands, clips or slides.

Bear in mind as well that as you may have oils rubbed into your scalp and hair - you might want to bring a hairbrush, hairband or hat to make yourself look respectable on your way home, or back at work.

After your Indian head massage treatment

After an Indian head massage treatment, you are likely to feel great: relaxed, serene, ache-free, clear-headed, ready to tackle that important report for work, run the children ragged round the park, or fall asleep and rest, depending on the treatment results you wanted and kind of oils used - if you opted for the hair oil. It is advised to drink as much water as possible following the 24hrs after your treatment and avoid caffeine and alcohol during this time.

In the long-term, the deep-down effects of your Indian head massage may well leave your hair softer, shinier, stronger and in much better condition.

If you opt to have a hair oil treatment, please note that after your massage your hair will smell very strongly of the essential oils used during the massage. If you're going out or have plans, you might want to allow time to give your hair a wash beforehand.

What is Indian Head Massage like?

Relaxation plays a big role

When the tissues of your head, neck and scalp are tense, it impedes circulation to the area, interfering with healthy hair growth. Massaging the area will induce relaxation, allowing optimal blood flow to resume. Healthy skin and hair are not the only benefits of head massage. After only a few minutes, headaches can reduce along with fatigue and fatigue-related symptoms.

Another relaxation-booster which is often triggered during a head massage is an extremely pleasant sensation known as ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response). Most people have experienced this sensation at one point or another during their life, described as euphoric tingles that occur in the head and emanate through the rest of the body. When we physically relax, our mind soon follows and vice versa. The physiological benefits of relaxation are tremendous and essential for a good quality of life.

Within just a few minutes of the start of the indian head massage you can feel effects and your body and mind can begin to benefit.

- You do not need to remove your clothes (unless you are wearing a hat)

- You don’t have to sit upright - I can offer the treatment for you laying down if you prefer. (Especially if you are in need of a deep relaxation).

- Any age can benefit from Indian Head Massage.

Doing something with soul, creativity, or love - when you put "something of yourself" into what you're doing, whatever it may be.

7 Benefits of Indian Head Massage

The benefits are really rather crucial and can assist with a variety of physical and emotional problems and concerns. Here’s a few of them:

Helps prevent migraines, headaches and back pain

Tension in the upper back, neck and head very often leads to headaches. If this is a continual, unrelenting tension it can even lead to depression. An Indian head massage will start with the upper back, arms and shoulders helping to relax your knots and relieve tension. It will then progress to the head and neck encouraging better cerebral fluid circulation.

Promotes hair growth

This is a lovely side effect of the Indian Head Massage (if you’re trying to grow your hair anyway). The massage increases nourishment and oxygen to the scalp and hair follicle which in turns stimulates hair growth.

Detoxifies the body by stimulating lymphatic drainage

Indian Head Massage stimulates and improves lymphatic drainage and blood flow to the neck thus helping to remove waste (toxins) products from the body.

Relieves sleeplessness, restlessness fatigue and insomnia

Sleeping poorly is often a side-effect of stress, therefore relieving stress and tension will allow your body to properly relax and rest. These are often side-effects of stress and Indian Head Massage will immediately relieve stress and promote relaxation by attacking the physical symptoms and stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, thus allowing for a deeper sense of wellbeing and relaxation and opening your body to better rest.

Relieves symptoms of anxiety and depression

Massaging the head increasing the supply of oxygen to the brain and is one of the best ways to get rid of anxiety. All that oxygen makes you feel great! Just like exercise does. Massaging the head encourages the supply of oxygen to the brain which is one of the best ways of reducing anxiety and of lifting one’s mood. Oxygen helps you think clearly and creatively and a similar effect is experienced through exercise.

Renews energy levels

It’s all about bringing everything back to balance. Working on the chakras during an Indian head massage goes beyond healing and restores balance to the bodies energies. An Indian Head Massage works with the Ayurvedic concept which goes beyond the limits of healing and places emphasis on balance. Working on the chakras through Indian Massage has a powerful effect in bringing the energy of the body back into balance.

Boosts memory capabilities

Having an Indian head massage is like pressing the reset button. During the massage everything slows down, tension is dissipated and your thoughts quieten right down, allowing the brain to ‘charge’. Often, we have short-term memory difficulties because our brains are overloaded with disorganised thoughts, making it very difficult for us to efficiently ‘log’ and collect thoughts and occurrences. Indian Head Massage slows us down, sensual awareness takes over, thoughts quieten and awareness is brought to the forefront. Think of it like someone pressing your ‘reset’ button.
